Assessment Tests

Assessment tests may be used as part of the recruitment process. These take the form of the following:

Ability Tests – ie numerical and verbal tests which are multiple choice questions and will be completed on line. Your achievement is measured on the number of correct answers you have in the time allowed.

Personality Questionnaires – these measure a candidates’ preference for certain types of behaviour. There is no right or wrong answer. The information provided will be considered when assessing a candidates’ suitability for a particular role.

Interview process

The interview process will normally consist of a technical face to face interview and a competency based interview at first interview stage. A second stage interview will be held with the Head of Division prior to any appointment being made. For graduate vacancies this would also involve a presentation to the senior management team.

The performance review process consists of an annual review and objective setting process and a six monthly review where you can discuss your progress with your Line Manager.

The reinsurance market offers a more interesting career path than the banking sector, according to a top exec at JLT Re.

David Flandro, executive vice president, global head of strategic advisory at JLT Re, said: “As someone who left sell-side equity research for reinsurance at a time when banking was riding high, I can say the reinsurance sector is more balanced, more interesting, more hands-on, and more fun – especially for those in junior roles.”

He added that there is also less of a differential in terms of the monetary reward now than there used to me. “If it used to exist it doesn’t appear to now,” he said.

Flandro served as an equity research analyst at Merrill Lynch, before departing for Benfield in 2006, where he served as industry analysis and research team member.
